Training Focus Explained November - End of 2023

April 2024 

New Focus:

  • 2X Strength days (one deadlift /one bench press)

  • 1X Running | aerobic work.

  • 1X Murph prep, push/pull/squat/run stamina.

    Continuing:

  • 1X Zone 4 high intensity interval training.

  • 1X Zone 2 long slow.

  • 1X Zone 3.

  • 1X Active recovery

  • 1X Stretching

  • 2X Strength days (one lower /one upper)

    Eliminating:

  • Rowing/Air bike single modality.

  • Back squat, push press strength work.

Suns out guns out! It’s time to get ready for summer.

TrainFTW’s programming is designed around eight to twelve week periods of focus. Some call these ‘mesocycles’, but that would infer that these focus periods added up to an overall macrocycle goal. This is not the case.

Starting April 2024

Over the next eight-ten weeks our primary cycle focus will be:

  • 2X Strength days (one deadlift /one bench press)

  • 1X Running | aerobic work.

  • Murph prep, push/pull/squat/run stamina.

This "focus" means that these elements will be seen more regularly in the microcycle template than you would normally see in a general fitness program. Our microcycle is 6 training days. In addition to our subscriber's request for these elements, we are prepping for longevity and real-world endeavors this summer and fall.

Our Story

At 46, Matt has been training in some form for the last 38 years. In 2018, those years started to catch up with him. Matt found he was battling overuse injuries, spending too much time in the gym, and was uninspired to train. He was on the hunt for a new training program that was built for him. Matt is a lifelong athlete that wanted to keep his gains, but not blow up his aging body. He was tired of following programs for a few months before he burned out and/or had nagging injuries. He wanted something fresh that he could be consistent with, where he didn’t have to think once he stepped into the gym. 

Well… the hunt became a creation. With over 16 years of programming and coaching experience, Matt decided to create a program for himself. He is a career firefighter who needs to be fit, but has to stay safe, spends his free time in the mountains, and let’s be honest wants to keep looking good naked. If you are looking for a program that is fresh, balanced, flexible, effective, and time-efficient (not asking for much, just the world),  TrainFTW is your kind of program.

 

TrainFTW is a balanced and fresh approach to training.

Designed for the individual user in a garage gym, globo-gym, or an open gym. It includes a warm-up, workout, skill work, accessory work, videos, movement/equipment modifications, and intended plans of attack. Completed in 45-60 minute window. No thinking - just open the app and put in the work.

Each week there are 5 workouts, 1 recovery workout, and 1 rest day / stretching. 

Easy access to coaches and other athletes with community texting feed, video submission, and leaderboard. 

Specific training focus in 6-8 week blocks, determined by the community. 

A variety of functional movement exercises where we eliminate high-risk, low reward movements and add in targeted accessory work.

A platform to log all of your fitness markers, lifts, scores, etc. 

A program for the everyday hero, looking to stay healthy, get stronger, fitter, and faster!
