Welcome to TrainFTW’s New Year training cycle, running from January 5th through March 1st, 2026. This 8-week cycle is designed to help you start the year with structure, consistency, and momentum that carries beyond the first few months.
For the first time, we’re programming on a five-day predictable microcycle template across seven days, based directly on member feedback. You’ll know what to expect each week while still training all key qualities needed for long-term progress.
What you’ll train in this cycle:
• 3 Strength days per week built around foundational barbell lifts
Back squat, bench press, and deadlift
Each strength day includes targeted accessory work for strength, hypertrophy, and stamina
• 2 Conditioning days per week
One high-intensity day focused on VO2 max and anaerobic capacity
One low-intensity Zone 2 day to build aerobic fitness and longevity
• Active recovery day
An optional run-focused aerobic day, ideal for winter training and treadmill access
This cycle is a slow roll into 2026. The goal isn’t to crush yourself early in the year, but to establish foundational strength and conditioning you can build on through future cycles.

Our Story
At 47, Matt has spent 39 years dedicated to training, pushing his body to the limit as an athlete, coach, and competitor. But by 2018, the wear and tear began to show. Overuse injuries, long hours in the gym, and dwindling motivation left Matt searching for a smarter approach. He needed a program tailored to his life—a lifelong athlete who wanted to maintain his gains, avoid burnout, and keep his body moving well for decades to come. Fed up with programs that prioritized intensity over longevity, Matt set out to create something better.
With over 17 years of programming and coaching experience, Matt built TrainFTW—a program designed for himself and others like him: career firefighters, outdoor enthusiasts, and everyday athletes who want to stay strong, healthy, and, let’s be real, look good naked. TrainFTW is fresh, balanced, and flexible, fitting into your life while delivering effective, time-efficient training.
